San Diego – San Quintin, Baja Mexico

(Driving day 1: 346 km/215 miles)

This is the day we start our Baja Mexico California adventure!
When everyone is ready on their bikes, we start our ride on the 1.560 miles long Best of Baja tour. Beautiful San Diego disappears behind us as we head south for a unique adventure full of history and fun. We spend the day driving on fantastic motorcycle roads; Historic Route 94 and 98, plus Old Hwy 80. As we pass through the gorgeous twisty section up the Otay Mountain Wilderness, the roads are curvy and the scenery spectacular. During most of the day, we will drive along the Mexico border, which is well guarded by the U.S. Border Patrol. Enjoy + have your camera ready!

When we enter Mexico, you can feel the change of pace as soon as you cross the border and life just gets a bit more relaxed. Our next stretch will take us to Valle De Guadalupe, Mexico’s finest wine country. Vineyards and olive groves everywhere will make you feel like you are somewhere in Southern Europe until we reach again the shores of the Pacific Ocean for our last stretch of the day; a breathtaking ride into Bahia de Todos Santos and Ensenada. Ensenada has plenty of great food options and some characteristic Cantina’s where you’ll get a true sense of the culture of this city. We continue to San Quintin, where we’ll overnight.

3

Day 3: San Quintin – Bahia de Los Angeles, Baja California

(Driving day 2: 355 km/221 miles)

Today we head south on Mexico’s Hwy 1 riding through Santo Tomas, where the first grapes were planted centuries ago. Civilization quickly leaves space to full wilderness. Located in the middle of the Desierto Central de Baja California, Cataviña is a combination of gigantic granite boulders, unique vegetation, and white sand. Hundreds of species of cacti and desert plants, many of which are endemic – like the boojum – seem almost artfully arranged between the boulders along dry riverbeds. The final few miles into Cataviña are breathtaking and we’ll get there just in time for Sunset.

More spectacular landscape will be our backdrop all the way to Bahia de Los Angeles. Bay of LA is popular for activities such as kayaking, windsurfing, and tourism in addition to being a sports fisherman’s paradise, famous for its fabulous fishing.

4

Day 4: Bahia de Los Angeles – San Ignacio, Baja California

(Driving day 3: 341 km/212 miles)

The ride leaving Bahia de LA is memorable as we cross the heart of the Valley of the Cirios Cacti. Eventually, we’ll ride into Guerrero Negra just after crossing the state line from Baja Norte to Baja Sur. Fish tacos are a must-have while in Baja, and in Guerrero Negro you’ll have the best!

Shortly after the landscape will change. Volcanic tops and cactus-covered hills are surrounding the charming town of San Ignacio, an authentic desert oasis also famous for its 300 years old Mission.
San Ignacio is famous for whale watching; Laguna San Ignacio is regarded as the best of the three locations in Baja California where the gray whales make an appearance each year. It’s where the whales are friendlier and encounter more likely.

5

Day 5: San Ignacio - Loreto, Baja California

(Driving day 4: 272 km/169 miles)

Welcome to a spectacular ride on Hwy 1 south on Baja California’s east coast. We will ride in a volcanic territory (Volcan Las Tres Virgenes), descent Devil’s grade, unfold on several miles of amazing switchbacks, with the beautiful Baja coast with deep blue water and volcanic islands and beaches on our side. Our end destination is picturesque Loreto, which is the oldest Spanish settlement on the US west coast. This charming small town has a very memorable central plaza and a rich offer of restaurants with true Mexican cuisine. Keep your cameras ready, this will be a day and night to remember.

6

Day 6: Loreto – Guerrero Negro, Baja California

(Driving day 5: 417 km/259 miles)

We say goodbye to beautiful Loreto, and head north for another spectacular ride on Hwy 1. We ride along breathtaking isolated beaches and volcanic islands; your biker heart will smile with enjoyment. We pass Conception Bay and make stops to get make sure we get our pics for the memory books. On our ride to Guerrero Negro, we once more ride through San Ignacio, where we will make stops at the town plaza.

7

Day 7: Guerrero Negro – San Felipe, Baja California

(Driving day 6: 400 km/249 miles)

After a memorable experience in Guerrero Negro, we start heading back to Baja Norte, heading towards the beauty of the Sea of Cortez and its bays. It will be another spectacular ride on Baja’s east coast, today you get to experience the beauty of Hwy 5 on a memorable ride towards San Felipe.

8

Day 8: San Felipe – Ensenada, Baja California

(Driving day 7: 248 km/154 miles)

We will be riding some twisty roads through the mountains and dropping back onto the Ojos Negros valley. Once we arrive in Ensenada, we will be taking MEX 1 north all the way to Ensenada. Tonight, we’ll toast to a great Baja California motorcycle ride, sure to be wanting to plan our next one soon. We celebrate our good times together, new friendships at our last supper together (farewell dinner).
